The development covers approximately one eighth of the total area within the city walls. It is an "open" scheme, providing a natural flow between the existing city fabric and the new development with its lively mix of uses. On completion in 2005, the Whitefriars scheme will have added three new large stores to Canterbury - Fenwick, Boots and Tesco Metro - and provision for up to 29 other units.
All the retail units in the new development will be serviced underground, which will remove service vehicles from this area of the city. A 530-space multi-storey car park will be sympathetically integrated into the scheme.
The development also includes 33 residential apartments. |
